Overdosing on Cannabis, while not typically life-threatening, can lead to unpleasant side effects such as anxiety, paranoia, and dizziness. If you find yourself experiencing these symptoms after consuming Cannabis, there are several things you can do to help mitigate the effects:
Note: This blog post is not meant as medical information, but is based on personal experience. It gives tips of what to do in a case of simple cannabis over-consumption. If the person has taken other drugs (alcohol, cocaine, etc.) and/or shows symptoms of serious overdosing, is unresponsive, or unconscious, please call 911, contact a physician, or bring that person to the emergency room. Cannabis by itself is not lethal, but combining it with other drugs can lead to severe adverse effects.
If you or one of your friends has consumed too much Cannabis, there are four things you can do to mitigate the adverse effects.
One of the most important things to do when experiencing an overdose is to stay calm and try to relax. Remember that the effects of cannabis are temporary and will eventually pass, even if they feel intense at the moment.
It is important to find a safe and comfortable place to rest if you are feeling overwhelmed or dizzy. This can reduce the risk of injury and provide a sense of security.
Cannabis can cause dry mouth, and drinking plenty of water can help to alleviate this discomfort. Staying hydrated can also help to flush the cannabis out of your system more quickly.
If you are feeling nauseous or dizzy, eating something light, such as a piece of toast or a cracker, can help to settle your stomach and provide a small amount of energy.
The best thing you can do after over-consuming cannabis, is to remain calm and realize that the effects are not life-threatening (even when they may feel that way) and are temporary. They will subside and all you need to do is ride out the high.
Other than these 4 things, there is little more you can or need to do, other than to simply wait until the effects of the THC wear off. Usually, this will not take very long, 30 minutes to an hour tops if you were smoking, or a little longer if you overdosed on edibles.
Either way, just relax and remember that what you are experiencing is just the effect of consuming too much weed. It will not do any long-time damage, and you will be back to normal in a matter of hours.
